Expect the unexpected...

Last night was another reminder that traveling in Brazil is a different beast.  I was looking at our final airline confirmation email and noticed a slight change from the previous version.  They quietly moved our flight from the older airport to the brand new airport 10 miles away.  We've been following the construction of the new airport since we started planning the trip, but there hasn't been much information available.  The promised opening date of April 1st proved to be a Fool's Day joke.

As of today, the official website for the airport still has this photo on the cover....

A series of articles in December pointed out that nobody had bothered to build a road to the airport, other than the one lane dirt construction road that was visible in Google Street View.

Apparently, they've made some progress at the last possible moment. As of May 31st, all domestic Brazilian flights are using the new airport.  Nothing like testing out your brand new airport with the busiest travel week ever!!  Wikipedia shows some pictures that make it look like a real airport, but who knows if they've got any of the logistics figured out....

We'll let you know in two days!
